Play-Doh and Skittles

Week three at BLC! I can't believe it's already been three weeks! I'm loving my kids - I really believe that God is giving me a love for the unloved at this clinical. Some of the kids need someone to just tell them they love them, to hug on them, to be a positive role model for them, and sometimes to discipline them in a loving way. And I am able to see them through His eyes... which is humbling and exhilarating at the same time. It's incredible!

On another note... I feel like my career is opening up right before me. I'm able to be creative and do therapy on my own for the most part, just checking in with my supervisor occasionally and to ask questions. I'm finding that I know much more than I ever dreamed I knew. It's all coming together and making sense to me now. I'm having to read a lot because I'm not so familiar with all the stuff we do with kids. I'm really doing a lot of researching and thinking outside the box for my own personal growth as well as helping my kids. Pinto beans are an amazing therapy tool... my kids are really loving them right now. Stamps, too... for some reason, being able to stamp all over your own hands is fascinating to them! It's awesome to have to use my mind so much to make things creative and enjoyable for the kids... spelling names with Play-Doh is so much more fun than writing them on paper... and the kids don't even realize they're working! Rewards are as simple as "You can have some of my lip gloss!" and the end of the "world" can be resolved with "Let's get some Skittles!" Those really are the important things in life - Play-Doh and Skittles. And loving the unloved.
