Halfway!

I'm halfway to graduation! Yay! I finished up my first clinical today. It was very bittersweet. I've loved my time at this clinic - Conway Regional Scherman Heights - and would definitely recommend it to anyone needing physical, occupational, or speech therapy. I've learned so much, met so many incredible people, and become a part of many patients' lives. I had 2 good supervisors who wanted me to learn as much as possible. It was a great environment and I was sorry to have to leave. But.... I'm halfway there! I can't believe it! Only 12 more weeks and I'm a real OT. Wow. It's crazy.

I'm starting at Butterfly Learning Center on Monday. That should be an adventure - kids under 5! I better eat my Wheaties before I go...

All in all, I feel like I'm almost ready to step into the next chapter of my career - which is STARTING my career!!!! :) Real money will be nice... as well as real benefits and real responsibility. The next 12 weeks should fly by and then graduation day, here I come!

God is so faithful.

Five years since I started college.

So many things have happened in the time it takes to graduate!

God blessed me first and foremost with a core group of friends I met my freshman fall semester. A few became my roommates and I loved our times living together. We've fought and made up, seen each other through smiles and heartache, and proudly donned our caps and gowns last year to become UCA alumni. They are really amazing friends and though we've all scattered and pursued relationships, graduate degrees, and jobs now, we remain close at heart and each of them showed up at my wedding. That meant so much to me!

Second, God revealed to me the calling and purpose He has for me on this earth. Oh, but OT school was rough. Many humbling moments and emotional breakdowns occurred in the halls of Doyne Health Science Center. Ridiculous projects and unending lectures tested my willpower and sanity over the past 3 years. But every time I failed or faltered... God was there, reassuring me this was the right choice.

Occupational therapy may be a tough program, but every time I see someone I've been treating making progress and they tell me something they are now able to do that they weren't before, I realize it was ALL worth it. One of the proudest moments of my life was when I discharged the first patient I had ever evaluated and treated. Suddenly all the tests, projects, drama and sleepless nights were worth every penny of the student loan I paid for them! I never dreamed a job could be so fulfilling.

God also brought my family closer in a way I never thought possible over the past two years. He reconciled relationships that had been estranged for many years. I can't wait to see what He has planned in the next few years for my family, cause I know it's going to be amazing.

During this season of my life, God also opened the door to the next season of my life: marriage. It has been the most incredible three months of my life! Knowing that God spent so much time creating a soulmate for me is so amazing. Learning to love each other through "sickness and health" has been a really good experience for us. I didn't know I could love him any more than I did before we got married, but I do every day! Growing together in the Lord and His Word, we are learning to love and serve each other better. Every day is an adventure for us, and I cannot wait to see what God has in store for us as we continue on in our journey into "happily ever after!"

God has been so faithful to me over the last 5 years. He always has provided for me in just the right way - even when I may not agree with His way! I am so thankful and humbled by the way He loves me and cares for me. He truly is my King.

Lessons Learned

So, there's a few things I've learned in the time I have been in college, particularly in OT school.

1. God is my God of second chances... He always comes through for me.
2. Never change your answer on a multiple choice test. Go with your gut.
3. Setting two alarms is ALWAYS a good idea.
4. You don't necessarily have to strive for A's - sometimes I've been more proud of my B's that I worked so hard for!
5. UCA floods like New Orleans when it rains - bring your boots!
6. I love Reese's peanut butter cups and my day seems better when I have them.
7. Procratination may be my best friend or worst enemy.

Tonight it's my worst enemy. I'm trying to get these projects finished up for clinicals and they are due tomorrow. I have to have an inservice, two different exercise handouts, and a fine motor board all finished by tomorrow. My computer is acting CRAZY... the power keeps blinking because of the storm... my printer was out of ink and paper... now it's 10 p.m. and I am just now beginning to work on my last project. Hopefully it won't take all night!

In other news, I'm ready for this weekend! Tyler and I are going camping, and I can't wait! We really need some down time together, and I think it's going to be great spending some time in the great outdoors, eating s'mores and soaking in the glory of God's creation. We're just hoping this rain stops before then!

Geocaching

So I took my first geocaching expedition today. It was really a lot of fun! I went with my brothers and dad, and we just went here in town, but it was a lot of fun and a good way to get our feet wet. I'm looking forward to getting into it more over the next few months as it gets nicer weather! T and I are going camping in a few weekends and we hope to do a little geocaching while we're there. He hasn't gotten to go yet, but I know he's gonna like it when he does... it's like Easter egg hunting year round and you never know what you may find! :)
